The myth

Gary Buxbaum (owner, bio condensed) 3rd generation in the home furnishings industry. Gary apprenticed in classic methods and techniques of upholstered furniture from old world European craftsman for many years prior to stating his first upholstery company.  

Gary learned the craft of upholstery from the frame up starting in the summers when he was 13. Gary started his first custom and prototyping upholstery business at age 27 selling to high end interior designers and corporations.  

For over 30 years he had manufactured for some of the country’s top architects, designers and hotels. He has also collaborated with many noteworthy product designers helping to develop their signature pieces.  

Gary has built and sold several upholstery companies: Gary George Designs, GBCUPHOLSTERY, Hailey Furniture Group. He currently is the Executive Director at Touch Up Home a national furniture repair company with over 100 locations around the country and Mobile Furniture Group a national reupholstery and slipcover company.

Gary has both a design and manufacturing background, Gary has been asked to lecture numerous times at such prestigious institutions as, NYU, Pratt, ASID, FIT, and Parson’s (where Gary also taught). His work has been featured and has been written about in such publications as, Architectural Digest, Metropolis, Interior Design Magazine, Traditional Home and others. He also holds two US Patents on drapery hardware.  

Gary currently is designing a new collection of furniture and accessories.
